Pediatric Cancer Awareness - NoahBrave5K

Date: Saturday, September 19, 2020

AO: Armada

QiC: Shoota

PAX: Flava, BloodClot, Pope, Delorean, Wilson, ClickBait, OT, Torch, HackFace, Glowstick, Dukey and Swingline. Add Spandex, Lookout and Jorts for the 5K

Today everything was centered around creating an awareness of the impact that Pediatric Cancer has on the families that are diagnosed with cancer. The majority of reps were done for a purpose with a key statistic in mind.

Before the workout began I announced that every 3 minutes we would stop whatever we were doing and would do 3 burpees every time the "bell" on my phone went off. Why? Because every 3 minutes in this world another family is told their child has cancer. So for the next 60 minutes...every time the bell goes off drop and do 3 burpees.

WoR - 20 SSHs, 12 BACs, 12 Back BACs, GMs and WMHs

Thang 1

43 burpees to start. Why? That is 1 burpee for every child that will be diagnosed with cancer today in the United States.

Thang 2

Mosey to the bridge

broad jump all the way to the other side

Bear crawl back

broad jump all the way to the other side

bear crawl back

Why? The 4 trips across the bridge represents the 4 out of 5 children that will beat their cancer every year! Let's celebrate those 4 and the battle they waged and won.

Mosey to the hill, run to the top. At the stairs to the fort, crawl bear up all the stairs. Keep moseying over to the pavilion.

Thang 3

10 pullups and 15 merkins

10 pullups and 15 diamond merkins

10 pullups and 15 werkins

10 pullups and 15 staggered right merkins

10 pullups and 15 staggered left merkins

Thang 4

Each PAX does 92 squats to get us to 1,190. Why? 1,190 children under the age of 15 will lose their battle with cancer this year.

Mosey back to fort area. Bear crawl down all the stairs. Stop at the bottom of the stairs before we run down the mountain and let's do 100 Spicoli's. You can't have a cancer awareness Q without honoring our own Christopher Close, F3 Spicoli, who continues to battle cancer today. Let's honor him and his courage before we move on...love you Spicoli and praying for you brother!

Mosey down the hill to the field. Every child we've spoken about today is in a battle, a race of their own. In their honor we'll race across the field (approx 250 yards). Sprint, give it all you got! Now back to the shovel flag and parking lot...one final exercise.

Circle up for Mary. Each pax completes 285 LBCs in cadence. Why? Because 1 in 285 children in the United States will be diagnosed with cancer before their 20th birthday.

We finished with a couple of minutes to spare, but for good reason. I had put a call out to see if any of our PAX were personally impacted by pediatric cancer and asked if they would be willing to share about their journey. Flava stepped up. He shared his very personal journey with his own daughter that battled cancer for years, and the many struggles his family has endured. He educated us on many things and opened our eyes to the very personal reality of what families face. One of the stats that Flava shared was that only 4% of the billions spent on cancer research goes towards research on pediatric cancer. Only 4%! The reality of our own vulnerable children being impacted and facing unimaginable struggles is easier to avoid, and not research, than it is to acknowledge it and address it. God bless the fact that Flava's daughter just passed her 5 year remission date (sorry if I get the wording and date wrong Flava) and we all celebrated that accomplishment with him. What a blessing!

Moleskin - I'd like to say that if you missed this morning, you missed something special. But then, I am just partial. This has been on my heart for weeks and bringing it to the forefront felt useful, and right. I don't get nervous before Q's, ever. But yesterday and last night I was terrified, hardly slept. The more research I did, the more I realized the struggles these families face, the more I realized how unqualified I was to even attempt to bring appropriate awareness to it. Flava, you are my idol. I can't thank you enough for sharing and want you to know how much I respect you and what you have been through. You are an amazing man that all of us are inspired by. I could never do the Q justice, this disease is just too insurmountable to comprehend, but I hope everyone that was in attendance learned something today. Something they will carry with them and keep on their hearts. Keep praying for Noah, he needs the prayers more than ever right now!

Thanks for being there men, I am grateful every time you allow me the privilege of leading, today more than ever.

After the prayer we huddled up and prepared for the NoahBrave5K. 21 people (PAX, M's, 2.0s and friends) all joined in prayer for Noah's and Flava's families. Thanks to Spandex, Lookout and Jorts for joining us for the 5K! 3 laps around Armada! It was really cool seeing how everyone was cheering one another and created an alley of support at the finish line. Shout out to OT and his 2.0s. Both of his daughters showed up and CRUSHED the run!!! It was the perfect ending to a phenomenal morning. We were humbled, saddened, educated, prayed and rejoiced all in one morning...that's how we do it in F3 Franklin!

Humbly presented...Shoota
