Baba O'Riley for the Win!

26 PAX. Man I am in awe of how far we have come. I was planning the workout last night and it hit me that I needed to create two different workouts. One for >15 people and one for 30. It used to be you just hoped that 10 would show up and you never had to worry about space or where to take anyone. I love the growth. Having all of these amazing men coming out to the gloom really invigorates everyone, including the Q. It pushes us to think differently and use a new approach. Individual growth gentlemen, it never stops!


Pre-Party - Hoser, Lump, Shoota, Gig'em and HackFace made a trip over to the monkey bars for play time and musical chairs. You should join us next time!

It all started at my first Q. I don't really remember the exact date, but the night before there was a lot of talk about rock vs old school rap and legendary songs. A descendent of the old school rap genre, I decided to try something different and found the Baba O'Riley in the Exicon. Assuming the song was always called, Teenage Wasteland, I had no idea what Baba O'Riley was. However, I do know it is a legendary warm up! Who knew imperial walkers to the perfect 5 minute song would be so difficult! Go ahead and get a few Good mornings in since we've apparently forgotten what those are lately!


Count off in 2's....takes a couple of tries before we mastered such a difficult task.


Thang: Lets Mosey to the basketball court!


We arrive at the court and take position on the sideline since there are so many guys. #1's on the line doing contra burpee broad jumps to the other sideline and back. Each burpee add an extra merkin. The further you broad jump, the less merkins you will have to do, it's called science as Wilson so adequately pointed out! #2's are doing mucho chesto with sets of 10 of each exercise (merkins, wide merkins, diamond merkins, staggered right and staggered left). Rotate. After everyone completes one set, lets do it again!


Mosey over to the playground area for circuit training;

Break up into 4 stations for 30 seconds of AMRAP (As many reps as possible)

4 stations in round 1 include merkins, squats, pull-ups and dips. Rinse and repeat

Round 2 stations include squats, pull-ups, dips and WW2s.


Mosey to the track for more group work

#1s - sprint the straightaway, lunge curve, sprint straightaway and lunge curve.

#2s - politician up hill and run down - complete 3 times before #1s get done.

Rotate


Get 20 WWII to catch your breathe. Mosey politician style up the hill and back to the shovel flag.


Every Shoota Q ends the same way, it's kind of my thing....Captain Thors. 1:4 ratio of setups to American hammers. All the way up to 10:40. Historically, I know some guys haven't been able to complete them, BUT NOT TODAY! Plenty of time to take it slow and ensure EVERYONE gets them in. After 5:20 we take a short break. Delorean volunteered to create a spreadsheet to determine the half way point, thanks for stepping up D! After 7:28 another break. 8:32, 9:36 and 10:40! Nice work men...pretty sure every man finished. Great job. Still some time left so lets get some Freddy Mercurys and Pam Andersons while the clock ticks away.


Post Party - Music played and we did 7 HackFace burpee things. Not sure what he called them but the music certainly made it more enjoyable.

Whew what a day. I love leading you fine men. It's a truly humbling experience to see so many great individuals pushing themselves as hard as they can for no other reason than self improvement. We aren't paying to be here, nobody requires our participation, but we keep showing up. We keep coming back and we keep bringing others with us. We refuse to take the easy path and sleep a little longer. We show up for each other, hold each other accountable and push each other to our limits. I'm proud of this group and what we've become and I am honored to be a small part of such an outstanding group. Keep pushing men! Know no limits.
